Courting a Deeper Life: A New Moon Ritual Honoring the Path of Eros.
This moon cycle, which begins April 27th, invites us to follow the path of our pleasure, desire, aliveness and eros into the heart space.
The heart & the womb (or the sacral chakra) are deeply connected. As we follow the path of eros—our life force and vitality that is woven with our connection with desire, pleasure, and sensuality—we often find ourselves journeying toward our greatest love.
What I am talking about is shifting our relationship with life itself through the erotic. From something transactional to something romantic. What might it be like to be in courtship with life? to be in a grand romance with each breath, moment, inkling or adventure? To follow the urgings of your aliveness toward some unknown force that very well may crack you open to something greater?
Pining and longing like you are a victorian era writer of poetry and love letters is not just about "getting" the thing that you so deeply desire. The energy of the longing itself is a potency that offers the multitudes of who we truly are at our feet. Meaning, tracking our eros gives us the opportunity to see ourselves and what we care most about in this life mirrored back to us. Eros carves a path toward love.
Love that goes beyond the boundaries of a honeymoon-phase romance with another. Love that exposes our core values, who we long to become in service and sacrifice to that love.
If you find yourself allured by this theme, this is your sign to join me under the stars this Sunday evening. You might also be interested in joining Beltane: Pleasure Liberation on May 4th, or my online course Primal Eros, both of which give you a deeper dive into these topics.
In the meantime, here are some journal prompts to chew on:
What, in this moment, feels alluring to you? What are you pining for? Write a love letter to that which excites you, moves you, and draws you in.
Describe something you deeply long for, not focusing on the outcome, but on the energy and feeling of the longing itself. How does this longing illuminate your core values or deeper truths?
Explore the relationship between your womb space (or sacral chakra) and your heart. When have you felt a profound resonance between desire and love, pleasure and purpose?
New Moon Ritual: Romancing Life
Here is a simple moon ritual to honor this new moon and deepen into the romance and love beneath the surface of your everyday existence:
Create Sacred Space Find a comfortable, quiet spot, ideally outdoors under the stars or near a window with a view of the night sky. Light a candle or incense.
Ground into your Senses. Close your eyes, place one hand on your heart and the other on your womb or lower belly. Take slow, deep breaths. Feel the warmth and connection between these powerful centers in your body. Allow your breathing to soften you into receptivity. Feel into the sense of smell, taste, feel, and inner sight.
Write a Love Letter to Life. Take a few minutes to journal about or reflect on your pleasures, sensuality, and desires. From that place of being connected to those elements of your life, write a love letter. Not to a person, but to Life itself. Express your longing, gratitude, wonder, and curiosity. Be unguarded and honest, poetic and free. Write as if you are courting life, expressing your heartfelt desire for deeper connection and meaning. Really turn up the volume on the part of you that waxes poetic, that is wildly romantic, over-the-top with courtship. Give yourself permission to be “too much.”
Receive Life's Response After completing your letter, sit in stillness. Imagine Life responding lovingly and tenderly to you. Allow any sensations, images, words, or intuitive insights to arise naturally. There is no pressure for a response here, just giving some spaciousness for you to steep in the experience. Notice how you feel.
Close with Gratitude End your ritual by offering gratitude to yourself, earth, moon, and life. Blow out your candle with the intention to carry this courtship and connection forward through this moon cycle.
