Awakening Eros: A New Moon Ritual to Evoke Spring
In the wake of the Spring Equinox, we arrive in a time when energy swells with possibility, and inspiration thrums just beneath the surface. Spring is the season of Eros: the life force that pulses through you. Our desires and longings that are not defined by escapism or addiction but rather a compass to the more creative and authentic life that is also seeking you. Our pleasure which is foundational to our humanness, to our relationship with life, and to our sensuality. When I speak of Eros, I speak of our aliveness, our ability to turn toward life with a willingness to be changed by it.
The life cycle begins in the spring. In the pleasure of sexual embrace. Creativity spills from the places within us that are full of life, vitality, the stirrings of grief and praise and longing and desire. Inspiration is an inhalation, a beginning draped in the sensuous. All that we long to create or be in this life begins with the Erotic, begins with the spring. There is no denying the presence of eros, sexuality, sensuality, vitality, inspiration, and excitement in the unfolding of this vernal time. Nature is dripping with it. The puritanical lens through which American mainstream culture tends to see life through embraces “fertility” and “rebirth,” but omits the core essence that is threaded through the creation of life: Eros. The Erotic that is not limited to the sex that brings about the birth of new animals, but the kind that also fuels the deep and creative life that we were born to live as humans.
This moon cycle, I invite you to tap into this aliveness. I invite you to settle into your senses, and sink into the fertile darkness of your own creative center, where desire and inspiration are born. The womb space, the sacral chakra, the pussy, and the pelvis. This spring, we will spend the next few moon cycles slowing down just enough to awaken, explore, and be guided by this erotic energy — not just the energy of passion and pleasure, but the energy of pure, creative life force.
What desires are calling from the depths of your being? What yearning stirs beneath the surface, eager to be made real? In this one wild and precious life, in this season of renewal, we are invited to be fools with fresh eyes, to be surprised by our longings. To listen deeply to the creative sparks — in love, in artistry, in how we show up and what we offer to the world. Our desires are the compass guiding us toward the life we are meant to live. This new moon, we honor that yearning, giving it the space to bloom.
Simple At-Home Ritual
To honor and awaken your creative energy, try this self-guided ritual:
Create Sacred Space: Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can be undisturbed. Light a candle or place your hands on your womb space or sacral chakra (located in the low belly), setting the intention to connect with your Erotic Self.
Embodied Practice: Take deep, slow breaths, letting your belly expand fully. As you breathe, gently rock your hips or sway your body, allowing the movement to derive from the pelvis. Close your eyes and imagine a warm, glowing light within your womb space. This light is your creative life force, your eros, swirling gently and expanding with each breath. Imagine that with each breath, you draw more energy and awareness into this space. Continue to move intuitively with each breath, opening your senses and feeling into the subtle sensations in the body. Follow your pleasure, giving yourself permission to lean into the sensations that feel good to you. As you move, you might ask this creative and erotic center: What do I long to call into my life? What do I long to create? When you feel complete, gently slow your movements until you find yourself in stillness. offer gratitude to your body’s wisdom.
Writing & Reflection: Take time to journal the insights and desires that emerged. Allow yourself to write freely, without judgment or hesitation. At the end, write 3-5 statements starting with the words “I summon.” Call in that which you desire with these statements. As you write, really imagine/feel/sense that these desires already exist for you. Imagine that these desires are also longing for you.
Closing: Thank yourself for showing up and igniting or deepening your relationship with the Erotic. Extinguish the candle or place your hands over your heart, sealing your ritual with gratitude.
